Overview

The Conservation Commission is responsible "for the promotion and development of the natural resources and for the protection of watershed resources of [the town]" (MGL c. 40 § 8C). The Commission administers the state Wetlands Protection Act (MGL c. 31 § 40) and regulations (310 CMR 10), and the Holbrook Wetlands Protection By-Law (Section 11-7). Town-owned conservation land is generally under the care, custody, management and control of the Commission, and they have the ability to acquire land for conservation and passive recreation use, and to utilize tools such as conservation restrictions to protect open space. The Commission may also be involved in open space planning for conservation and passive outdoor recreation purposes.
